“I’ve been working alone during the Christmas break, trying to get back into shape and feel much better now, so I hope to be ready for the January 6 match against Parma,” he told the official Atalanta website.

“I can only hope 2020 is better for me than 2019. I’ve really missed being with the team, I got anxious watching the games, because I was unable to help my teammates. It was really a struggle and I can’t wait to let it all out once I get back on the field.”

Despite his absence, Atalanta still reached the Champions League Round of 16, where they will face Valencia in February.

“We achieved something extraordinary. When we won the decider away to Shakhtar Donetsk, I was watching in a restaurant in Seville. I was going crazy with the celebrations and nobody could figure out what was happening to me.

“We are very happy and were also fortunate when it came to the draw, as it could’ve gone worse than Valencia.”
