Denzel Dumfries opened up about Inter’s sluggish start to the season and the hard work of the members of the squad.

The Nerazzurri currently sit 7th in the Serie A table after the first seven games, picking up 12 points from four wins and three losses. The team have looked inconsistent from the outset and their Champions League campaign also reflects this, with a loss to Bayern Munich followed up by a win over Viktoria Plzen.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, Dumfries first spoke about Inter’s poor start to the season and the unhelpful timing of the international break.

“The situation at Inter is annoying, we want to change things as soon as possible. So, in this respect, the international break has been an annoyance.

“But maybe it can be useful to clear one’s head again.”

Dumfries then commented on the hard-workers in the Nerazzurri squad and the example he’s taken.

“We have many experienced guys in the squad, who do everything to get the most out of themselves and their careers. I try to learn from that every day. But my eyes were really opened during a day off last season.

“I had to report a minor injury to the club for treatment. I went to the weight room and saw thirteen players training on their own. If I had not been injured, I would never have known that so many teammates sacrificed their days off to improve and get fitter.

“But then I told myself that this is how it works, that you always have to work on your body. And I’ve been doing that ever since.”

The 26-year-old Dumfries joined Inter in August of last year from PSV in a deal worth around €13.7m. Since his arrival, the Dutch full back has scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 54 appearances across all competitions.
