Denzel Dumfries confirms his goal against Cagliari was ‘something we worked on’ in training, but also admits Inter coach Simone Inzaghi can be a bit much. ‘He speaks a lot, sometimes I don’t listen, because it is too much!’

The Nerazzurri made short work of Claudio Ranieri’s Cagliari in Sardinia, securing the 2-0 result by the 30th minute thanks to goals from Dumfries and Lautaro Martinez.

They also struck the inside of the upright twice through Lautaro Martinez and Calhanoglu.

Dumfries spoke to DAZN after the final whistle at the Unipol Domus and reveals what everyone already knew, that Inzaghi loses his voice because he shouts constantly on the touchline.

“The coach is always very excited on the side of the pitch. He speaks a lot, sometimes I don’t listen, because it is too much! I know him now, it’s good, he motivates me to attack, so I like it.”

Fortunately for Dumfries and other wing-backs, at least they are on the other side of the pitch in one half.

“I am very happy when we change sides, very happy!”

The opening goal scored by Dumfries also came from a high press forcing Cagliari into an error.

“We trained a lot on when we lose the ball, so we stay compact and attack the ball, get it back as soon as possible. It is not a coincidence that this goal happens, because it is something we worked on.”

There is no denying that the Scudetto is the target for Inter this term, having reached the Champions League Final last year and won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana.

“The Scudetto is the first objective for us. Last year we had a great season in the Champions League, but this year we need to win the Scudetto and get the second star,” acknowledged the Dutchman.

“It’s obvious, everyone expects it from us, so it is very important we win and get the second star.”

Every club that wins 10 Serie A titles gets a ‘star’ permanently on their jersey, so Inter and Milan are in a race to reach 20 and get that second star.
