“Any player likes to play as a starter, I’ll try to show the Coach that I have qualities and I hope I can fight to be a starter for this team.

“[current number one Ciprian] Tatarusanu plays for his country, he’s a great goalkeeper and I can definitely learn a lot from him. Then the Coach will choose who starts.

“I hope Fiorentina is a team I can stay with for a while, and one I can go far with. I don’t think about the future, just the present.”

Dragowski was asked about his compatriot, Artur Boruc, who spent two seasons with the Viola before moving to Southampton.

“I don’t know if I can ever be like Boruc, he’s a champion, a kind of [Robert] Lewandowski of goalkeeping. I came here to prove that Fiorentina have made the right choice in focusing on me.

“Obviously Boruc is an example to follow.

“My role model? I don’t have a particular role model, though there are goalkeepers like [Gigi] Buffon, [Jan] Oblak, [David] De Gea and [Manuel] Neuer who I really like and I try to learn from them.

“My character? I have an explosive character, and maybe that’s not always positive but I’m very ambitious.”
