At least 12 arrests have been made after clashes between Napoli and Leicester City fans at the King Power Stadium last night.

Skirmishes broke out before and after the Europa League meeting between the Premier League and Serie A side and the Leicester Mercury reports 12 fans have now been arrested.

Further investigations are ongoing, so Police could arrest more fans involved in the clashes in the coming hours.

According to the report, missiles were launched between the two sets of fans and Napoli fans removed their belts to use them as weapons.

Police officers had to step in to separate the home and away supporters and Napoli fans were kept back until the rest of the stadium had been cleared.

Leicestershire Police’s Leicester City events Twitter account described the behaviour of some Napoli and Leicester City fans as disgraceful.

“All the excitement for Europe spoilt once again by the minority. CCTV will be viewed and those responsible will be held to account,” they said.

“Behaviour by some was a disgrace. Well done and thank you to those who didn’t get involved. Twelve arrests so far and counting.”

On the pitch, Napoli recovered from two goals down thanks to a Victor Osimhen brace, holding the Foxes to a 2-2 draw.

Napoli and Leicester City will meet in the second leg at the Stadio Maradona on December 9.

  1. Wait for the match in San Paolo to take place and then English fans playing the victim card. Naturally, they’ll blame Napoli fans for yesterday, and then when they get royally beaten up in Napoli, they’ll also blame Napoli fans for starting it. Sam old same old.

  2. What the hell is this? “I went to a riot, and a soccer match broke out.” Love the idiocy of these nitwits, giving the middle finger and b****-slapping others with their belts. But yeah, agree with @rosario that the English fans will feign being “innocent” victims during the game in Napoli.

  3. Napoli fans are no angels, they’ve a hard core ultra movement led by a guy called Genny. In England we have fans not ultra hooligans, we don’t have caged sections for away supporters, the vast majority of Premier League games are trouble free, it’s only when idiots like Napoli fans turn up, take off their belts to attack innocent supporters, then cry and play the victim card. I’ve no sympaphy for these thugs, come here are behave or don’t come here at all, your not welcome.

  4. Might want to rethink the statement “In England we have fans not ultra hooligans”…those fights and broken windows after the Euro 2020 Final didn’t happen automagically without some…spirited local input. ^_^ Each country has their share of nutjobs in stadiums.
