Brazil were eliminated from the Copa America quarter-finals last night seeing new Juventus signing Douglas Luiz miss a spot kick in the penalty shootout, while ex-Cagliari man Nahitan Nández was sent off.

Brazil were eliminated from the Copa America quarter-finals at the hands of Uruguay on Saturday.

The match went on penalties after a 0-0 draw in regular time and both Douglas Luiz and Real Madrid star Eder Militao failed to convert a spot kick for the Seleçao. Ex-Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nández had been sent off for a horror tackle on Rodrygo.

Douglas Luiz took the third penalty kick for Brazil in the shootout, hitting the woodwork on his left. PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte scored the decisive goal for Uruguay, sending his national team to the semifinals.

Juventus announced Douglas Luiz’s signing in a €50m deal from Aston Villa last week but with Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea joining the Premier League side in separate operations, the Bianconeri paid just €28m for the Brazilian midfielder.
