Juventus are starting to consider whether or not to offer veteran winger Angel Di Maria a new contract in the coming months.

The 34-year-old Argentinian joined the club on a free transfer last summer after his contract expired with Paris Saint-Germain, putting pen to paper on a one-year deal worth around €7.5m net per season, including add-ons.

Since his arrival, Di Maria has struggled to truly impress the Juventus fans, dealing with both injuries and shaky form. In the games after his World Cup victory in Qatar, the 34-year-old has scored twice and provided one assist.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are unsure about offering Di Maria a new contract and extending his stay in the Piedmont capital.

Failing to qualify for European competition would not only be something that pushes away players, but it would also see the club’s revenues shrink. Offering the same €7.5m contract to Di Maria under these conditions would be difficult to justify.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri was furious with the 34-year-old in the dying minutes of Juventus’ Coppa Italia win over Lazio, storming down the tunnel before the final whistle after the winger played a risky pass instead of trying to retain possession.
