Calls for the dismissal of Milan coach Stefano Piloi began to trend on social media on Saturday evening after Milan fell to a disastrous 3-1 loss to Udinese in Serie A.

The most recent loss means that Milan are without a win in any of their last three outings and have mustered up a singular point in the process.

Now, they face a real risk of being nudged out of the Serie A top four in an increasingly tight race for the Champions League spaces.

Assessing his side’s performance in the aftermath of the disappointment, Pioli said that his side “started badly and got worse,” which summarises not only the performance on the night but also their overarching set of results since league action returned after the World Cup.

In the period since the re-start of Serie A action at the start of the year, Milan have picked up a massively underwhelming 15 points from 12 matches, averaging 1.25 points per game.

Over 38 games, the 1.25 points per game average would equate to a 47-point tally over the course of the season, which would have only been enough to land them in 12th place in last year’s final rankings.

For the reigning champions, this sort of record is simply not enough to appease the Rossoneri supporters.

In frustration, large sections of the Milan fanbase have been calling for the coach’s head, as results continue to falter.

Immediate improvement is required sooner rather than later if Milan are to keep hold of their spot in the Serie A top four.
