Director Igli Tare says Lazio's pre-season friendlies mean nothing: 'The idea was to regain condition, not to win.'

The Biancocelesti have been performing poorly in the month of July, with the latest match seeing them thrashed 3-0 against Mainz 04.

“A few bad results in the month of July cannot erase the work of one year,” Tare told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“A few bad results in the month of July cannot erase the work of one year,” Tare told Il Corriere dello Sport.

“Alarms? I don't see things this way and neither does [Coach Stefano] Pioli, we're forgetting too many things that happened over the summer.

“Our group was fragmented, it wasn't possible to go into the training camp with everyone together and it wasn't until two days ago, in Mainz, that [Lucas] Biglia arrived and Pioli had his full squad.

“We anticipated certain difficulties. This is July's football, we had to prepare for a terrible month of August in which we'd play for the Supercup and the Champions League.

“We had some games earlier. The idea was to get back in condition, not to make a result.

“Not everyone trained in the same way and we faced some unexpected trouble.

“But Pioli's right, I am convinced [when the Supercup comes along] we'll be in condition to play for the win.”
