Donnarumma saves first Champions League penalty

Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma saved a penalty for Paris Saint-Germain against RB Leipzig and his former Milan teammate Andre Silva in the Champions League.

The 22-year-old has been dropped more often than not in favour of Keylor Navas at PSG this season.

He was chosen to take the gloves for the Champions League trip to RB Leipzig, only his second ever career appearance in the competition.

Andre Silva stepped up to take the spot-kick, but was denied by his former Milan teammate Donnarumma.

That was the first penalty Donnarumma has ever faced at Paris Saint-Germain or in the Champions League.

This means each of the last four spot-kicks faced by Donnarumma at club and international level have failed to go in.

Only four of the last 10 penalties have gone into the back of the net.

Of course, Donnarumma’s penalty prowess is well known, as he was instrumental in Italy’s UEFA EURO 2020 triumph during penalty shoot-out victories over Spain in the semi-final and England in the Final.
