Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma has been named Best Goalkeeper in Ligue 1, but his PSG teammates Marco Verratti, Neymar and Lionel Messi did not make it into the Top XI of the season.

There were a fair few surprises in the UNFP awards that were handed out this evening, with the 2021-22 campaign having concluded.

They were voted for by the professional players of the division, so this is the equivalent of the PFA Awards.

Despite being regularly criticised by fans and media, as well as constantly switching places with teammate and rival Keylor Navas, Donnarumma was named Goalkeeper of the Year in Ligue 1.

The 23-year-old Italy international made only 16 Ligue 1 appearances in his debut campaign, keeping five clean sheets and conceding 17 goals.

In all competitions, he played just 23 matches for PSG, with nine clean sheets and 23 goals conceded.

There were other shocks, because Donnarumma was not joined in the Top XI by his Paris Saint-Germain teammates Verratti, Neymar or Messi.
