Gianluigi Donnarumma has expressed his desire to take Milan and Italy ‘back to their rightful places’ in world football.

Donnarumma helped Milan beat Roma 2-1 on Saturday, while the young goalkeeper was included in Italy’s squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures.

"We’re a great group,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“We strongly wanted success against Roma. Our objective is to take Milan back to where they belong, which is in the Champions League, and we’ll do everything to achieve it.

“At first they put you in a bit of awe, but after that they give you great motivation to do well.

“The national team? It’s always nice to come back here, we have to do everything to take Italy back to their rightful place.”
