Italy and Paris Saint-Germain star Gianluigi Donnarumma, Milan’s Mike Maignan and Yann Sommer of Inter are up for the Yashin Trophy – the Ballon d’Or for goalkeepers.

The winner will be named during the ceremony in Paris on Monday, October 28.

The Ballon d’Or nominees for the 2024 edition of the prestigious award are released today, with players voted for by journalists and peers.

There is also the Yashin Trophy, named after legendary Soviet Union shot-stopper Lev Yashin, although his name in French has become Yachine.

Donnarumma seeking second Yashin Award

It was first created in 2019 and Donnarumma already won it in 2021, just after proving pivotal for Italy’s EURO 2020 triumph.

Donnarumma is a candidate again this season, along with Milan and France goalkeeper Maignan, Scudetto-winning Inter and Switzerland veteran Sommer.

Diogo Costa of FC Porto, Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel, Andriy Lunin of Real Madrid, Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, Argentina and Aston Villa man Emiliano Martinez, Unai Simon of Spain and Athletic Club, Ronwen Williams of Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa.
