Gianluigi Donnarumma’s hopes of becoming the undisputed PSG first choice goalkeeper were scuppered when the club rejected a Newcastle United offer for Keylor Navas.

The former Milan shot-stopper was named Player of the Tournament for Italy at UEFA EURO 2020 and won the goalkeeper’s version of the Ballon d’Or as well.

Nonetheless, he continues to be used as an understudy to Navas and that situation could well be dragged on for at least the rest of the season.

According to RMC Sport, Paris Saint-Germain received a large offer for Navas from Newcastle United, but turned it down.

It would’ve been a big money-maker for PSG, especially as they signed Donnarumma as a free agent.

Meanwhile, Donnarumma should feature against Brest tonight in Ligue 1, because it was announced Navas has tested positive for COVID-19 today.

Donnarumma also had COVID earlier this month, but has now recovered.

Navas has played 17 competitive matches for PSG this season, compared to 12 for Donnarumma.
