Gianluigi Donnarumma Nations League

Gigio Donnarumma insists he ‘always puts in the same commitment’ when playing with Italy and looks to the Azzurri’s next targets with his  ‘head held high.’

The 22-year-old was booed by Milan fans on his return to San Siro as Italy faced Spain in the UEFA Nations League semi-final last night.

The Azzurri ended their 37-match unbeaten run with a 2-1 loss against Luis Enrique’s side.

It was the first time Donnarumma returned to the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza since his move to PSG over the summer.

As expected, Milan fans didn’t welcome him well as they kept booing him from the very beginning of the warmup until the end of the match.

The 22-year-old delivered a message on social media the morning after the game.

Donnarumma never mentions the fans who booed him but insists he looks to Italy’s following targets with his head held high.

“It didn’t go as we wanted, but we tried our best,” Donnarumma wrote on Twitter.

“The spirit and commitment are those that always accompany us when we wear the colours of our country. Towards the next targets with the head held high.”

Italy will face Belgium or France in the third-place Final at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday. Les Blues and the Red Devils meet in Turin tonight.

  1. Abhorrent to boo, jeer players while playing for the Nazionale … whatever the reasons❗❗

If many of the Milan fans continue like this .. sending such negative energy continuously will only draw negative energy back .. and the very good replacement they’ve got for Donnarumma  .. Maignan … all will be channelled towards him .. UNIVERSE will say .. continue hating your past .. you don’t need the good present I’ve given you and the positive results ❗❗

  2. The Italian Football Association should see to that what happened yesterday with Donnarumma on Nazionale Duty should not happen again. In the meantime a piece of advice from an Ordinary but Die-hard Azzurri Supporter to Donnarumma … take the Boos and Jeers as Compliments … those doing so … highly rate you, miss you and are unhappy with you leaving even though they have got an excellent replacement ❗❗

  3. FIGC should not have scheduled the game in the stadium of AC Milan….knowing full well what would happen. Milan fans are a very loyal group to the club and they could not let the disrespectful way Donnarumma left the club go unnoticed.
FIGC caused this….if they want peace, never bring Gigio to SAN SIRO ever again

  4. Walk into a lion’s den, you will be bitten as a best case scenario. The fans reactions were neither unexpected nor disgraceful, but as @Roy pointed out in his second post, it reflects the love and hurt i milanisti have. Perhaps better to have played in Roma.

  5. I am sure it’s been said a million times . As a Milan fan I was bitter Donnarumma left , heartbroken really .
When Italy beat England for Euro’s It was fantastic on two levels . The English looked like fools for booing national anthems and using laser pointers , dives and all sorts of classless acts to get the final . Italy won and left with class intact .
Yesterday we lost , which I can accept but the lack of class shown by members of the Curva Sud is hard to look past .
Ok we are mad at him . I get it . But he is playing for ITALY , and as many of you forget he was somewhat pivotal in a shoot out Euro win just months ago .
Many countries would love to have a world class keeper in their ranks , we have one and we are booing him ? He is the center of Italy getting back on top in the world , and we want to impede that away because he left to make more money ?
I am actually sick of debating this .

  6. I don’t read his BS but you deserve punishment so bad. Because you are one of the biggest traitor. That’s why

  7. Everything we do in football is for the love of the game Dollaruma Made his mark placing money over everything and anything despite pleads from welll know icon then he left because of money he deserves to be booed again have you asked yourself what if Paulo maldini as left for Manchester United do you know how much staying at millan meant to Paulo Dolla ruma is a disgrace considering all that Milan did for his family.

  8. Donnarumma had it coming!

I like the fact that true Milanisti hold the Milan shirt before the Azzurri shirt. As it should be. Supporting a club represents true passion.

Following the national team (whatever your nationality) is more “for fun” and to join in and feel part of the “mass hysteria” (in a good way) during a World Cup or Euro event.

    Hear me out:
    1) Donnarumma is fully entitled to seek out the best contract offer!
    2) Donnarumma is fully entitled to desire a new experience (abroad) in order to develope, if he feels that will bring him closer to his ambition, which I assume is to be regarded as the World’s best keeper.

    However:
    3) If Donnarumma had no intention of extending his contract, and if he made this decision a long time ago (i.e. during the Summer of 2020), then it is dishonest and deceitful to play along with contract negotiations instead of giving the Milan management a fair warning of his intentions and thereby a fair chance to sell him in order not to lose their most valuable asset for nothing!
    4) If Donnarumma really loves Milan he should not put Milan in this situation, especially knowing Milan’s financial situation!

As far as I have heard, Mbappe told PSG, he does not intend to sign an extention and wants to leave at the latest when his contract expires in 2022, giving PSG a chance to sell during the Summer of 2021.

This is what a decent person does – and especially one who claims to love his club!

  9. Froza Milan who spoke last, God bless you, you are so right. If he loves the club as he claimed, he wouldn’t have let us loss this much, our best asset, Imagine.

  10. As much as I’m not a fan of Mbappe, he did indeed tell the team he wants out, and did so quite vocally early this past summer. But it’s all in the past, Gigi can be great as a benchwarmer, if that was his ultimate goal.

  11. He has more loyalty to his country than Milan fans who booed him…

Amazing after he was instrumental in Italy winning a European championship after 58 year drought, that these football fans couldn’t put aside their petty, immature feeling and support the national team. If they couldn’t why buy a ticket to the game, stay home .

Moronic people act like football isn’t a business, especially their club which is owned by a American billionaire hedge fund. The complete opposite of when they put on the Auzzuri shirt for boyh fan and player, should always be about country, anything to do with clubs and private feeling irrelevant.

  12. Forza Milan .. hope you’re not Italian, if you are what a disgrace.

As if Ac Milan isn’t Business, who are in it to make a profit, as if it isn’t owned by a American billionaire hedge fund, as if they didn’t have the money to pay players, if they wanted to.

Putting a Club above national pride, national loyalty and heritage, all for what, players move from club to club. That part of the Business.

You sure don’t mine that AC’s new goalie left his club without backward glance for more money in another league. Didn’t renew his contract after helping them win their league.

  13. @Sammy

No, I’m not Italian. But that’s not the point. I feel a greater connection, sense of pride and loyalty to AC Milan than to any national team. Maybe that’s because I’m Northern European.

I see it vice versa to the CdS journalist comparing the Milan ultras/fans to racists. Have you considered that the more “nationalistic” you feel, the more prone you are to being against other nationalities?

What’s your point with Maignan? Are you referring to the €13m transfer fee, Milan paid to Lille?

    https://www.transfermarkt.com/mike-maignan/profil/spieler/182906

Btw, as a Milanisti, I have already grown very fond of Maignan! What a great keeper and what a presence and personality! Forza Maignan!

  14. With ac Milan no club we no him many great player have lift the club but they are still honors, eg Kka, and many of them because ac Milan sold them and make profit, while donnarumma betrayal the trust of the club at last minute, with out gaining any thing, you must that club is a business.

  15. Donnaruma had this coming. Fans of teams with a history like AC Milan were used to club heroes that spend their carreer at their club. These don’t exist anymore, so they have to do with players that change club for money after a few years. In fact it’s their good right to do so, but then there’re snakes like Donnaruma who play on these historical feelings and kiss the badge saying they love the club, only to sign for free elsewhere. That’s why he is a traitor. If he doesn’t understand that, I can only hope his girlfriend walks in 1 day saying ‘love of my life, I leave you after 9 years because my friend Mino tells me to do so and my new boyfriend has more money. But don’t worry, you’re still the love of my life’.

  16. What Milan fans did was nothing but a mere loyalty and love for their best beloved club. Donnarumma and Hakan are wolf’s in sheep clothing.

  17. Forza Milan and Abakar Nigeria have said it all. A deceitful and ungrateful man will always face his own self created crisis.

This ugly path of pretending to negotiate when a player indeed wants to walk out free is what Kessie has opted for.

Sometimes people place money above all things. I am a Nigerian professional and have children in Jessie’s age. I adored him and hailed him as the Mr President but it is obvious he, like Gigio he is opting for the path of self deceit and ingratitude.

Shakespeare in Coriolanus, said ingratitude is monstrous. He too should be careful not to destroy the good name he made last season at Milan

  18. A Milan fan that is not Italian agreeing with the stupid behaviour of Milan fans during a game that involved the Italian team and not Milan shouldn’t be a suprise, and as for the Italian Milan fans, shame on them!! Your country must be proud of you. At least he’s name remains in the history books.

  19. The bottom line is that he is a coward, he left Milan like a coward with that insult of a man Raiola and this is why the fans will not forgive and forget. We don’t need anyone to tell us Milan fans the worth and ability of Giggio as a goalkeeper we know that already. Everyone knew what was going to happen returning to San siro so early after leaving Milan the way he did. Wish the guy all the very best wherever he plays , he should be forgotten already because in Maignan we have a world class keeper a leader figure and hopefully our No1 keeper for many years to come.
    Milan fan
