The 16-year-old has broken into the Rossoneri first-team, replacing Diego Lopez, with President Silvio Berlusconi predicting he’ll be the number 1 for the next two decades.

However, in an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio’s website, Ciro Amore, President of Scuola Calcio Club Napoli, reveals the ‘keeper almost ended up on the other side of the San Siro divide.

“Yes, the first pre-contract was with Inter,” Amore revealed.

“A representative of Inter came here to the football school to tell me they wanted him, they gave us an ultimatum and his father accepted the destination too.

“Then they all went to Milan and enrolled in a school to ensure he could begin his adventure with what was at the time [Massimo] Moratti’s club.

“When Donnarumma went to Milan with Inter, the first team goalkeeping Coach [Luciano] Castellini decided to train him, because he knew he was a big talent.”

The player’s agent revealed last week that Juventus were also interested, but the player himself always wanted to join Milan.
