‘Donnarumma can be Buffon’s heir’

Andrea Poli says his Milan teammate Gianluigi Donnarumma can be the heir to Juventus’ “living legend” Gianluigi Buffon.

Donnarumma has firmly established himself as the Rossoneri’s first-choice goalkeeper and has made his Italy debut, despite being just 17-years-old.

“Buffon is a living legend, I’ve had the honour of knowing him,” Poli told Gazzetta dello Sport on a visit to the Milan Store.

“Gigio has already shown that he can maintain high levels, despite his age. He deserves to go on like this because of his humility, how he behaves on and off the pitch.

“He really can be the heir to Gigi.”

The two goalkeepers will be on opposite sides of San Siro this weekend, and Poli believes his side can cause problems for Buffon.

“We’ll face Juventus without fear, but with concentration and the will to win. We’ll have San Siro on our side, and when it’s full it’s unique, we want to give our fans great joy.

“They’re strong and we have a great desire to play a great game, we’re in good form and we’ll be ready. There’s enthusiasm from the fans, and that will help us on Saturday.

“Juventus are the top candidates for the Scudetto, while we’re second but with great desire in the Champions League fight. To play in it with Milan would be magical.”
