Italian goalkeeper Gigio Donnarumma has saved two expected goals at Euro 2024; only Mike Maignan and Martin Dúbravka have managed more.

The numbers prove Italy captain Gigio Donnarumma is among the best goalkeepers at Euro 2024, something Azzurri already realised after watching the opening group stage games against Albania, Spain, and Croatia.

As reported by Il Corriere dello Sport, Gigio avoided 2.03 expected goals in the first three matches of the tournament.

Ironically, his Milan replacement, Maignan, France’s starting goalkeeper, has managed slightly more during the tournament: 2.26.

The first goalkeeper for expected goals prevented during the Euro 2024 group stage is Slovakia’s Martin Dúbravka with over three (3.15).

Donnarumma has faced 15 shots during the tournament, made 12 saves, and conceded three goals, one per game.

Donnarumma will join Italy CT Luciano Spalletti at a pre-match press conference from the Olympiastadion in Berlin later today.

Gigio has made 65 appearances with Italy’s national team, making his debut in 2016.

  1. What a useless stat to compare. Has nothing to do with the actual goalkeeper but the whole team. Donnarumma was 20 times better than Maignan, and Mamardasvhili is way better than both at this competition.
