Multiple reports this evening confirm Roma have agreed personal terms with free agent Mario Hermoso, who had also been in talks with Galatasaray.
Sky Sport Italia, Fabrizio Romano and more are all confident that the deal is done and he will fly into the Eternal City on Sunday.
The contract should be until June 2027, although there will also be a release clause allowing him to potentially leave in 2026.
The defender only turned 29 in June and can crucially play as a centre-back as well as a left-back.
He spent the last five years with Atletico Madrid and was released when his contract ran down on June 30, leading to negotiations with clubs including Galatasaray, Al-Ittihad, Al-Shabab, Inter and Milan.
Hermoso to Roma as Smalling replacement
It had been suggested over the last few days that the Roma transfer strategy was not over, even with the deadline on Friday night.
This is because they can still bring in free agents and crucially the Saudi Pro League window is also still open until September 2, with Chris Smalling said to be in advanced negotiations for a move to Al-Fayha FC.
Hermoso might not be the only free agent that the Giallorossi go for, as they are also said to be in talks with Mats Hummels.
