Despite a late bid from the Saudi Pro League, Lazio have their €3.5m deal for Olympique Marseille defender Samuel Gigot, who is flying in tonight.
The player turns 31 in October and his contract with Marseille was due to expire at the end of this season, so they were in a rush to sell.
According to Fabrizio Romano and others, the deal is done for €3.5m and he is expected in Rome this evening, to undergo his medical tests tomorrow.
Gigot chose Lazio
There had been suggestions from France Info that a club in Saudi Arabia was making a last-ditch attempt to intervene with their own improved proposal.
However, Lazio held firm with the agreement they had reached with both Olympique Marseille and the player, who is ready to continue his career in Serie A.
It won’t be his first experience abroad, as Gigot also played for KV Kortrijk and KAA Gent in Belgium, as well as Spartak Moscow in Russia before the move to Marseille in January 2022.
