Josip Brekalo is ready to return to Serie A and will undergo his medical with Fiorentina on Saturday morning, reports in Italy claim.

The former Torino midfielder returns to the Peninsula six months after the end of his one-year loan spell with the Granata.

Sky Sport Italia and Fabrizio Romano report the Croatia international has agreed to personal terms with Fiorentina. He will land in Florence on Friday evening, undergoing his medical with the Tuscans on Saturday morning.

His contract with Wolfsburg expires in June and Fiorentina will secure his signature by paying compensation to the Bundesliga side.

Both Udinese and Napoli had been linked with the Croatia international, but there have never been reports of concrete offers coming for either Serie A club.

Brekalo scored seven goals in 33 appearances with Torino this season.

The 24-year-old managed 22 goals in 129 competitive games with Wolfsburg, where he arrived from Dinamo Zagreb in 2016.
