Former Milan, Atalanta and Palermo midfielder Massimo Donati has retired from football, joining the coaching setup at Hamilton Academical.
The 36-year-old played 27 games for the Rossoneri in the 2001-02 season, having signed from the Orobici alongside Cristian Zenoni, but was unable to break into the side on a consistent basis.
A series of loan spells followed, with Donati representing Parma, Torino, Sampdoria and Messina before a return to Bergamo.

After a spell with Celtic in Scotland, he returned to Serie A with Bari, before moving to Palermo for two seasons, followed by 20 games for Verona and a return to Bari.
For the past two seasons he has been playing with Hamilton in the Scottish Premiership, but the veteran will now pursue a coaching career.
“Massimo has agreed with the club to cancel his current playing contract,” Accies chairman Ronnie MacDonald announced in a statement on the club’s official website.
“He has been a model professional within the Club and we are delighted that he has started his coaching and management career within our Academy.
“He has been an outstanding player at the highest level and we have benefitted from all his experience and the standards he set.
“Massimo now enters the next phase of his career which I am sure will see him becoming very successful in Management.
“We wish him every success and look forward to him returning to Hamilton at the head of his own team in the future.
“In bocca al lupo, Massimo!”
Donati never played for Italy, but he was capped 26 times at Under-21 level, scoring once.
