Massimo Donati says he’s happy with being transformed from a central midfielder to a centre-back by new Palermo boss Gian Piero Gasperini.

The former Celtic player has been used in the middle of a back-three in Gasperini’s trademark 3-4-3 system.

“I’ve fitted in well to the new role,” the 31-year-old told Sky Sport Italia. “It is a position which allows me to have many touches of the ball.

“I like the role, but the most important thing is that the team plays well.

“I don’t know if I will be used in that way all season long. If I do more harm than good back there then it is only logical that they’ll take me out…”

Juventus youngster Luca Marrone has been used in a similar way by Old Lady boss Antonio Conte this term.
