The defender shone during the European Under-21 Championship, which saw the Azzurrini finish runners-up to Spain.
“It is very satisfying, but also proof that something is changing on the football landscape,” agent Silvio Pagliari told SportItalia.
“We need to make more of our young talents instead of always looking abroad. Inter made their evaluations.
“Bayer Leverkusen weren’t the only team interested in Donati, but they were the most persistent.”
The transfer is not yet official, but it’s expected to be only a matter of days for a €3m deal.
