“I am just interested in achieving the result, a factor that passes through the maturity and awareness of the situation of each of us,” said Donadoni in a Press conference.
“Everyone is free to make their own decisions and decide their destiny. I want to fight to the end and I’m sure the players want that too. It requires great dignity, especially when the situation is difficult.
“Is Cassano called up? I don’t see why he shouldn’t be. Cassano is a member of this squad, then if the club makes another decision I’ll abide by it, but technical decisions are purely down to me.
“Nobody said Cassano is frozen out of the squad. I do not have to clarify what every paper says. I have my squad and decide on the basis of training sessions, as I always have done. I don’t need to discuss anything else.”
Cesena and Parma are joint bottom of the Serie A table with nine points each, while the Sea Horses had only one victory all season – the opening round against Donadoni’s men.
“This is a play-off. There’s no other way of putting it. I told the lads they had a terrible first half to the campaign and we lost at Cesena also because we didn’t interpret the game the way I wanted.
“We need to turn the page, but there is no more room for error. We have to run, sweat, struggle and claw results back with our fingernails.
“All the rest is chatter. These lads have always showed great dignity. That is positive, but not sufficient.”
