Former Napoli Coach Roberto Donadoni says of President Aurelio De Laurentiis "football is not his forte”, but praises his business sense.

The ex Bologna Coach had 19 games on the bench at the Stadio San Paolo in 2009, and after being sacked he complained he was hired by “people who don’t know about football”.

Today he spoke to the Gazzetta dello Sport, and asked if De Laurentiis has learned since then.

“Definitely, but it’s not his forte,” Donadoni explained.

Today he spoke to the Gazzetta dello Sport, and asked if De Laurentiis has learned since then.

“Definitely, but it’s not his forte,” Donadoni explained.

“That’s completely logical for a President. The management and results of the club have been excellent in recent years.

“For example, choosing Carlo [Ancelotti] after [Maurizio] Sarri was a big coup. We’ve met since and spoken cordially, we’re not people who hold grudges.

“Naples is a city which has remained under my skin for the way it experiences football. I’ve never witnessed that intensity, that passion, anywhere else.

“There’s pressure, but that exists everywhere. The visceral way in which Neapolitans love their team is unique.

“People in Naples need physical contact, to put their baby in your arms for a photo. Everyone loves the Azzurri, even those who don’t go to the stadium.

“Maybe we aren’t used to that, but you understand it’s important for them and do it with pleasure. Carlo has already understood everything.

“He did well in getting a home in Naples, I was looking for one in 2009…”
