But Donadoni stressed the challenge is to ‘continue to insist’, as the players ‘are aware of their value’ after a positive year.

“The group are now fully aware of their value,” Donadoni told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “You can see it against Parma, when they are two goals down but continued to play the game.

“There are undoubtedly positive signs from a good year, but now the trouble would be to manage them, he must continue to insist.

“Pioli did an extraordinary job; he deserves all the compliments. He’s a friend, I see myself in him.”

Donadoni said he can picture Milan winning the Scudetto this season but warned there’s a long way to May.

“The table reflects the values of the pitch,” he said. “Today, I would say Milan [will win the Scudetto], but it’s a long path.”
