Sassuolo coach Alessio Dionisi wants to bounce back from the draw with Genoa against his former club Venezia on Saturday. ‘We are growing. People normally judge by the results’.

The Neroverdi sit 14th in Serie A with eight points from eight games and are struggling to convince under the new coach.

Dionisi replaced Roberto De Zerbi during the summer and the former Empoli tactician believes his men deserve more than what they have collected so far.

“We are not in line with what we wanted because the performances were superior to the results,” Dionisi said at a press conference. “People normally judge by the results.

“We are growing. We have never stopped, but we need to want it even more. The last match against Genoa left a bad taste in our mouths. We are angry, we let ourselves blow a result we deserved.

“Tomorrow we have to go and get it back.”

Dionisi was the Arancioneroverde coach between July 2019 and August 2020, overseeing 40 games at the helm in Venice.

Tomorrow, the 41-year-old expects a tough game against his former club.

“Venezia are playing on the ropes of what they achieved last year,” he said. “They play the game, counterattack and are doing well in Serie A too. The last match against Fiorentina is a proof of this.

“We cannot underestimate anyone. It’s a direct clash, that’s what the table says. We have to go and get what we deserve on the pitch.

“I’m convinced that if we do this, you will soon talk about another Sassuolo.”
