Alessio Dionisi admits Sassuolo players were ‘upset’ at the fact Paulo Dybala’s goal was not disallowed for an Alvaro Morata foul, leading to the 2-1 Juventus victory.

It was the second consecutive defeat for the Neroverdi, who had gone in front through a well-worked Giacomo Raspadori goal on Domenico Berardi back-heel flick.

Paulo Dybala’s rocket drew level on the stroke of half-time and late on Moise Kean turned Vlad Chiriches to nutmeg Andrea Consigli.

The result is not reflected by the statistics, as Sassuolo had 64% possession and 22 attempts to 10, seven to five on target.

Serie A | Sassuolo 1-2 Juventus: Dybala and Kean close on third place

“Let’s say the lads were rather upset at half-time, but at the final whistle too. Over the course of the 90 minutes, if one team deserved to win, it was us, but the other team won instead,” Dionisi told Sky Sport Italia.

“However, we know the strength of Juventus, they keep going. We tried everything possible to score more goals, we didn’t deserve to be on level terms at half-time and the second half was almost as good as the first until fatigue set in.

“Juve defended so deep and closed all the spaces, so we tried to pass it around them and didn’t have as many shots on goal as usual, but that’s credit to the Bianconeri for their defending.”

They were also furious at the equaliser, feeling Alvaro Morata had fouled Giorgos Kyriakopoulos in the build-up.

“I don’t want to get into it, but let’s just say it is a pity the first half ended 1-1. It’s a real pity.

“The lads showed great quality and effort, Juve had the experience to control the game, yet we pinned them back into their own half for long periods.

“There are few Serie A sides who play with four strikers, so we are open to taking those risks because we have that quality. Perhaps we need to find more tactical balance and we don’t always do that, we get a bit stretched out and vulnerable to the counter-attack.”

Sassuolo are still in 10th place and are fighting now to finish in the top half of the Serie A table, but Dionisi is well aware some of his star names will probably be sold.

“We need to end the season on a high. Tonight we got the performance, but not the result. It’s all valuable experience for next season, hoping that as many players as possible continue with us!

“If some players leave to join more important clubs, that means they earned that right thanks also to the work we did with them. We can then do the same with whoever comes in.”

  1. Juventus plays a terrible and boring football, don’t understand why they are paying so much money to Allegri, for this kind of football they could hire Beppe Iachini and I feel like results would be more or less the same.

  2. So Juventus got help from the referee, I’ve heard that one before ALL MY LIFE.

Juve dominantes in Italy, but sucks in Europe. One very plausible explanation is, they don’t get as much help from the referees in Europe as in Italy.

    Case closed.

  3. No Samy Abraham, son of David.

I meant Rubentus, the Italian cheaters who can’t do sh*t in Europe.

Inter are s**t but for other reasons.

  4. That Samy Ibrahim character is funny. Calling Inter a cheater when he supports a club that was confirmed as a cheater and relegated to Serie B. Talk about delusion.
