Sassuolo coach Alessio Dionisi hailed ‘leader’ Giacomo Raspadori for the brace that got them back on track against Spezia.

The Neroverdi were unlucky, hitting the woodwork three times and going 2-0 down to Rey Manaj and Emmanuel Gyasi goals.

Raspadori came off the bench and bagged a double to secure the 2-2 draw.

“We have to see the glass half-full,” Dionisi told DAZN.

“Obviously, we had expected a very different performance, but considering the way things were going, we can be satisfied with a point.

“In the first half, we were slow and predictable, it was an issue of mentality. Spezia doubling their lad woke us up.”

It was the latest in a long trend of Sassuolo being giant-killers against the biggest clubs, beating Juventus, Milan and drawing with Napoli, but struggling in the smaller fixtures.

“We have to improve the way we read the game when the opposition doesn’t leave you space to play in and you have to go find that space. We move the ball too slowly and want it straight at us, but we need to spread the opposition with quicker passing.

“I left out Raspadori initially, but I knew he could give us a hand in such a difficult game. Giacomo is a striker who knows how to play for the team and, despite his tender age, he is already a leader for Sassuolo.”
