Alessio Dionisi believes it was the right decision to join Sassuolo and provides updates on the future of Manuel Locatelli and Domenico Berardi.

The former striker was unveiled as the new Neroverdi coach today.

“I am proud to be here, I thank Giovanni Rossi and Giovanni Carnevali, and I hope I can repay them on the pitch,” the 41-year-old said.

“It will be difficult to replace Roberto De Zerbi, I know I have a big responsibility. The Mister has made a brave choice and I admire him. He was available for me, I will try to follow his advice,” he continued.

“I know there will be many different moments during the season, I am thrilled and motivated.

“I’ve had a very good impression, I am getting to know everybody, but the first impressions confirm the idea I had made from the outside.

“You understand people when they face difficult situations, but everybody is really motivated, and I’ve spoken to many players. The lads want to confirm themselves.

“I want to put the players in the best conditions to do well, I’ve never thought about a single tactical system, I want the lads to play for a common idea, not just to follow mine.”

Dionisi had been in talks with Sampdoria after leaving Empoli, why did he choose Sassuolo?

“They are an important club with a strong identity, I felt it was the right choice,” the 41-year-old said.

Manuel Locatelli and Domenico Berardi are part of the Italy squad that have reached the UEFA Euro 2020 Final. The duo has been linked with leaving the Mapei Stadium in the summer, does he expect to coach them next season?

“It’s nice to see them with the Azzurri, but I am not in charge of certain choices. I’d like to coach them, but the club make decisions on the transfer market.

“I haven’t made requests for the club, I know they want to be sustainable.”
