Inter wing-back Federico Dimarco reveals what he was thinking when scoring against Frosinone from 56 metres out. ‘Thankfully it went in, otherwise the insults would’ve rained down on me.’

The Nerazzurri needed something special to break the deadlock against Frosinone at San Siro, as Dimarco spotted Stefano Turati off his line and lobbed it under the bar from 56 metres out (approximately 61 yards).

Hakan Calhanoglu then doubled their lead from the penalty spot following a Marcus Thuram slalom through defenders, while Yann Sommer and the upright kept the clean sheet intact.

When Dimarco spoke to DAZN after the final whistle, the inevitable first question was: Did he really mean to go for goal or was that supposed to be a cross?

“At the start, I saw Denzel, then I saw the goalkeeper off the line and went for it. Thankfully, it went in, otherwise I would’ve got so many insults raining down on me from the stands!

“It is certainly one of my best goals. I didn’t start the game well and made mistakes, but the important thing was to bring home the three points and stay top.”

This victory allows Inter to retain top spot in Serie A, after Juventus had spent 24 hours as the temporary leaders, putting them in a strong position going into the showdown in Turin on November 26.

“Even if there is a long way to go, it was important to be up there. We are a strong group, there is a lot of strength in depth and we can change places, so we keep working together for our objectives.”
