Dimarco: ‘Italy must build’ on surprising triumph in France

Federico Dimarco maintains Italy must ‘build on’ their shock Nations League 3-1 victory away to France, as his fantastic equaliser restored their confidence.

The Azzurri could not have asked for a worse start at Parc des Princes, shattering the previous record of earliest goal conceded by allowing Bradley Barcola to score within 14 seconds.

However, Dimarco’s fantastic volley to equalise gave them back the confidence they needed, marching to a 3-1 victory with Davide Frattesi and substitute Giacomo Raspadori on target.

Dimarco inspired Italy comeback in Paris

“It was not easy to get back on track after the Euros. We needed this victory to raise the morale of the team,” Dimarco told RAI Sport.

“We played very well, France will always have a few chances, but we are pleased with the result and the performance.”

Considering Italy had done so badly at EURO 2024 and felt their confidence at rock bottom, can defeating France in a competitive match at Parc des Princes mark the start of a new era?

“It is never easy to beat France, especially on their own turf, so we have to build on this,” concluded the Inter wingback.
