Federico Dimarco is confident Italy can have their say at EURO 2024 under Luciano Spalletti, who has ‘a very attack-minded style of football.’
The Azzurri won the EURO 2020 title with Roberto Mancini at the helm and are hoping to defend their title of European Champions in Germany this summer.
New coach Spalletti only took over towards the end of qualifying in September 2023 after Mancini abruptly handed in his resignation.
“People always expect a lot of Italy because we have such a lot of history behind us,” Dimarco told Sky Sport Italia.
“Spalletti has a very attack-minded style of football and we push hard. The coach gave us lots of great indications, but obviously we’re not going to share those now. We are really very happy.”
Dimarco appreciates new Italy approach
The preliminary squad for the EURO 2024 tournament was named yesterday, including several representatives from Scudetto winners Inter.
There are also three uncapped players at senior level who could make their breakthrough in this tournament.
“Spalletti teaches football, he wants to give his own imprint on the squad, just like great coaches do,” concluded Dimarco.
The Azzurri will play two friendly matches against Turkey on June 4 and Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 9.
Their group stage is against Albania on June 15, Spain on June 20 and then Croatia on June 24.
The only two games played so far this year were friendlies in America, as Venezuela were beaten 2-1 and Ecuador 2-0.
A great coach but that is not enough if you don’t get the luck on the pitch
