Brahim Diaz would happily extend his stay in Milan if it were possible, but his parent club Real Madrid want him back in the summer so they can sell him on for a bigger fee.

The Rossoneri would also happily keep Diaz at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza beyond the end of the season due to his important performances in recent big games, but a deal to keep him is starting to look a little complicated.

By the end of this campaign, Diaz will have spent three consecutive seasons playing in red and white on loan from Madrid, but his most recent two-year loan deal will soon be up and he still has multiple years left on his Madrid contract.

He is contracted to the Spanish giants until the summer of 2025.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan do have the option to buy Diaz from Madrid for a fee of €22m, however in the event that he is sold, Real Madrid retain the option to buy him back immediately for €26-27m.

The Italian outlet believes that Real Madrid will have the last say in the matter thanks to their buy back clause, and they could decide to bring him back to Spain just to sell him on for a greater fee than the one that was negotiated with Milan.

In reality, there is little for the Rossoneri to hold onto at the negotiating table, although Gerry Cardinale is prepared to cut some sort of deal with the Spanish giants.

Relations between the two most successful clubs in the history of the Champions League remain positive, and it is still possible for them to reach an alternative arrangement.
