The former West Ham midfielder signed for the Stadio Dall'Ara outfit on Monday in a co-ownership deal from Brescia.

"My objective is to return to the Nazionale," the player noted. "I'm ready to work hard and do everything I can in order to achieve that aim."

The 28-year-old, who has accepted a pay cut to join Bologna, won international honours for the Azzurri last November.

He started behind the strikers in the 1-1 draw against Romania before being replaced by Daniele De Rossi in the second half.

He hasn't played or been called up by Italy boss Cesare Prandelli since.
