Former Serie A striker Alessandro Diamanti says he will support Australia at the 2022 World Cup.

The ex-Livorno and Bologna star moved to Australia in 2019 and has played 59 games with Western United, winning the domestic title last season. The Socceroos earned a spot at Qatar 2022 last night, beating Gianluca Lapadula’s Peru on penalties.

Diamanti is now enjoying his holidays in Bologna and revealed he’ll support Australia during the World Cup in November.

“I gave Australia some good vibes last night,” he said in an Instagram story.

“Let’s go to the World Cup, I’ll support them. With Italy out, I must support someone, so I’ll cheer on Australia because they are enjoyable.”

The 39-year-old scored 33 goals in 199 Serie A appearances and has 17 Italy caps to his name.

  1. Now with Peru out, imagine also Ecuador excluded. Only 3 sides from South America. I know Ecuador won’t be excluded, but just imagine. 😛
