Alessandro Diamanti is happy playing for Guangzhou Evergrande, insisting by moving there he couldn’t have made a better choice.

The 31-year-old joined the Chinese outfit, coached by Marcello Lippi, in January from Bologna and is delighted he did so.

In an interview with Radio Deejay, the attacking-midfielder also discussed Italy’s World Cup chances but said he has had no communication with Cesare Prandelli.

“Soon we will restart our work to reach our targets at Guangzhou,” Diamanti said. “It’s a great experience, I am encountering so many cultures and I couldn’t have made a better choice.

“The World Cup? I will watch the matches that are broadcast. I hope Italy win, even more so because we secured second place at the Euros, third in the Confederations Cup and there is only one place on the podium missing!

“As for the rest of the teams, the favourites are the usual suspects.

“Prandelli? I haven’t heard from him and SMS messages don’t work from China to Italy.”
