Angel Di Maria is expected to make a decision regarding his future next week, likely choosing one of Barcelona, Juventus and Benfica.

The 34-year-old Argentinian winger has been in no rush to decide which club to join following his contract expiry with Paris Saint-Germain, wanting to make the right choice as he picks his final European adventure. Di Maria wants to retire in his homeland with Rosario, so he’s only looking for a short-term deal to close out his time in Europe.

As detailed by Corriere dello Sport, Di Maria is set to make a decision regarding his future in the coming days. Barcelona are currently leading the race to secure his signature, but their economic situation means they cannot close out a deal yet.

Juventus, on the other hand, can finalise things and have sent in an improved offer. The Bianconeri have proposed a one-year deal worth €7m net, with an option for a second season. The hope is that this could convince him to head to Turin.

Di Maria’s preference is still Barcelona for the time being, especially because his family are keen on the idea of moving to Spain, and the Benfica concept is also intriguing as well.

All involved clubs have done every possible to try and convince Di Maria and now the ball is in his court.

  1. I’m not sure why Juve is hellbent on getting this guy. Juve is clearly not his first choice and it would only be a fallback position for him. Please concentrate on players who actually want to come to the club. Why not take a punt on someone like Gnoto?

  2. Why go after a player who considers Juve his second or third choice? Juve can not become a serious contender on the European stage if they continue this kind of outdated way of reinforcing the squad. They keep banging on about how they want to belong to the group of elite clubs, but behave like a mid table club, desparate for players – to the point that any player will do. Has it not occured to them yet, that the reason they have regressed so badly over the last few years is for two reasons: Colleting old expensive players & collecting useless freebies from other clubs. This type of strategy rarely works!!!

  3. He is obviously is hoping to avoid and resist coming to Juve and hoping he gets something from Barca or another club. Sad to see Juventus being strung along and desperate like this.

  4. CALMAAA!!!

Give him time. He is wise to consider his options. Barca’s project is still young, they keep finding money out of nowhere, but Xavi is young and forward thinking. Benfica will be the easy option and he can enjoy playing without pressure. Now joining PhD Max is real pressure. Does he want to go through the Dani Alves scenario of having to learn “Feng Shui” Max’s back, back, down, down. He will see that there are no reinforcements and I bet he is praying Inter make a last minute call.
