Angel Di Maria revealed that he hasn’t ‘spoken to Juventus’ about a new contract and underlined his remaining goals with the Argentina national team.

The 35-year-old winger has not had the simplest of seasons in the Piedmont capital, occasionally frustrating fans with anonymous performances and a perceived lack of commitment in the run-up to the World Cup in Qatar.

Since lifting the title with Argentina, Di Maria has shown some positive signs in Turin, scoring two goals and providing two assists in Juventus’ last five league outings.

Speaking to ESPN Argentina, Di Maria first discussed his future in Europe beyond this season.

“I have no preference. I’m happy here. The club has several problems, in recent times there is not much talk about renewal. I haven’t spoken with Juventus, nor with other clubs.

“I only try to think about playing and proving my worth in every game, then we’ll see what happens.”

He then reflected on Argentina’s thrilling World Cup final clash with France.

“I couldn’t believe we were going through all that, after a spectacular first half. It looked fake. Everything that happened in that final was incredible.

“Going to penalties and finishing with luck. Montiel who has shot 16 penalties in his career and scored 16, but if he doesn’t score that day what do you do? It’s luck.”

Finally, Di Maria looked ahead to his future with the Argentina national team.

“I no longer dream of the next World Cup. I believe in the next Copa America, I will do everything I can, I would like to be there.

“It’s fundamental that I continue playing in Europe to be there at the next Copa America, otherwise Scaloni doesn’t consider you, you have to be 100%.

“Leo has to be at the next World Cup, yes or no. He is Leo. Seven Ballon d’Or, Champions League, he won everything with Barcelona. He’s the best in history.”

Di Maria has scored three goals and provided six assists across 19 appearances this season for Juventus. His current contract expires at the end of the season and various rumours suggest that he’ll leave the club in the summer.
