Angel Di Maria and his wife Jorgelina Cardoso couldn’t hold back as angry Juventus fans took to social media, with the pair separately hitting back at frustrated supporters.
A dark cloud has enveloped Turin this season, with the club’s various legal issues, disastrous Champions League campaign and slow start in Serie A generating a miserable mood in the Piedmont capital.
Things have exacerbated in recent weeks. Juventus’ Europa League semi-final loss to Sevilla removed the chance of redemption on the European stage and they were handed a 10-point penalty by the FIGC on May 22, only hours before their 4-1 loss to Empoli.
As highlighted by Corriere dello Sport, things came to a head on Di Maria’s Instagram page recently, with the player and his wife both hitting back at frustrated fans.
One supporter accused the winger and his compatriot Leandro Paredes of being two mercenaries who don’t care about Juventus, prompting him to reply.
Di Maria wrote in a now-deleted comment: “The one who doesn’t deserve the shirt is you. The team and the players are together 100%, until the end. What you are doing is showing that you are with Juventus only in the good times and not in the bad. I send you a big goodbye. I’m good until the end, not like you.”
Cardoso, Di Maria’s wife, also hit back at a frustrated supporter, pointing the finger of blame elsewhere: “He’s not the one who prepares the team, he’s not the coach, he’s not the one who prefers to play at the back. Shut up, are you silly or do you get paid for it?”
Both comments were quickly deleted.
