Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio has supported his colleague and Minister of Sports Vincenzo Spadafora and agreed that “it’s better not to play”.

The Minister of Sports backed the Players’ Association’s decision for Serie A to be suspended during the coronavirus outbreak, making his stance clear when he expressed his position to cancel all sporting events.

Di Maio has now voiced his support of the decision, claiming that the players could “infect other citizens” if exposed to the virus during games.

“There are measures that require maximum responsibility, I say this to the world of football,” Di Maio said according to Tuttomercatoweb. “I express my support of Minister Spadafora, who is currently trying to convince the whole world of football that it’s better not to play.

“Bacause if there are positive players, they can infect others and, returning home, they can infect other citizens.”
