Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo admits the Partenopei have been ‘vulnerable’ and ‘never consistent’ this season but insists he and his teammates will give their all until the end.

Napoli were held to a 2-2 draw by Frosinone at the Stadio Maradona on Sunday and remain ten points below 4th-placed Bologna in the Serie A table with only six rounds to go.

“I think we were never consistent this season, in terms of results and performances. We have good and bad moments, but we never manage to kill the games off, as we did today,” Di Lorenzo told DAZN.

“We lost important points. We are upset because the team gave their all until the end, and the result does not satisfy us.

“I feel the responsibility because last season, I was the captain of the best team in Italy, perhaps in Europe. This year, I am the captain of this Napoli side that is not doing well,” continued the Italy international.

“There are always responsibilities. We are not having a great season, and everyone is aware of it.”

“Unfortunately, we’ve never been solid this season; we are vulnerable, and opponents feel this. We are working with the coach, but it’s not easy. It’s hard to fix the problems, but the team is giving their all to improve this situation.”

Coach Francesco Calzona said the team does not see the danger come, therefore, they concede too many goals.

“As I said, we are working on it. From the inside, I can see that the team suffers from certain aspects. We are never solid,” argued Di Lorenzo.

“The more we defend in our half, the more chances we have to concede. We were accustomed to running forward, but we had lost it a little bit.

“Today’s game was crucial following Bologna’s result yesterday. We threw away important points, but we will believe until the end because this club and these fans deserve to play in the Champions League every year.”
