Di Lorenzo: ‘Napoli want to retain Scudetto’

Giovanni Di Lorenzo insists criticism of Napoli has been ‘exaggerated’ this season and they fully intend to ‘challenge to the end’ to retain the Serie A title.

They were able to get the better of Salernitana at the Stadio Arechi this afternoon, emerging with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Giacomo Raspadori and Eljif Elmas.

“We knew it was a difficult game and we struggled on a few corners, but overall it was a good performance and a deserved win,” Di Lorenzo told DAZN.

The Napoli captain was asked if the team has been able to get over some of their problems adapting to new coach Rudi Garcia, taking over from Scudetto-winner Luciano Spalletti.

“We did not have problems this season, that is an exaggeration. We weren’t quite performing to our capabilities, but the results were not that bad and we are improving in our game management,” replied the Italy international.

“Our objective is to be up there and challenge to the end to win the Scudetto again. Only one can win, but we want to be challenging to the end.”
