Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s agent, Mario Giuffredi, insists the Italian defender wants to leave this summer even if Antonio Conte arrives: ‘The club can’t pretend nothing happened.’

Giuffredi explained Di Lorenzo’s decision to leave the Stadio Maradona on Monday after his client was booed by the home crowd in the last game of the season against Lecce.

With Antonio Conte set to be appointed as the new Partenopei head coach, Giuffredi was asked if his client could change his mind, but the reply was pretty clear.

Agent confirms Di Lorenzo wants to leave Napoli even under Conte

“I won’t deny what I’ve recently said. If the club tell us that they’ll sell the player for the right offer, it means that the club no longer believe in him and that he’s not at the centre of the project,” Giuffredi told Tele A, as quoted by TMW.

Di Lorenzo wants to leave even if the most important Italian sources claim Conte would like to keep him at the club.

“They should have thought about it first. They could have hired the manager first and then talked to Di Lorenzo,” said the player’s agent.

“You can’t say something and then backtrack and pretend nothing happened.”

Di Lorenzo, 30, joined Napoli in a €9.8m deal from Empoli in the summer of 2019 and was the Partenopei captain when they won the Serie A title in 2022-23, the third in the club’s history.

Di Lorenzo has been included in the Italy squad for Euro 2024 and his contract with Napoli runs out in June 2028.
