Napoli had expected Giovanni Di Lorenzo and his agent to announce he was staying at the club, but the abrupt cancellation of a press conference puts it all back in doubt.
The captain has been furious with President Aurelio De Laurentiis and other figures within the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona since the final game of the season.
His agent Mario Giuffredi said on numerous occasions that the right-back wanted to leave and had played his last game in the Partenopei jersey, as he felt let down by key people.
Napoli and new coach Antonio Conte held some summits to convince Giuffredi otherwise and they were seemingly successful, with the agent organising a press conference for next Tuesday.
Di Lorenzo situation up in the air
However, Sportitalia and Tuttomercatoweb note he has suddenly cancelled that meeting with the media.
This suggests that if he was going to announce Di Lorenzo had made peace with the Napoli chiefs, that is no longer the case.
“De Laurentiis is ready to sell if an offer arrives. Di Lorenzo therefore got the confirmation that there is a lack of faith in him, so we explained to Napoli that he wants to leave,” Giuffredi told reporters on May 27.
“You cannot have a captain who the club does not trust. We had never thought about leaving Napoli, only recently signing a lifetime contract, but it all changes when the club sees him this way.”
There has been interest from Juventus and Inter for the Italy international.
Lorenzo can stay in Naples after his disgraceful performances at the Euros.
