New Hellas Verona coach Eusebio Di Francesco assures he wants to carry on the work of Ivan Juric and ‘maintain the mentality.’

Juric walked away after two years to join Torino, so EDF was brought in as his replacement, after two disappointing spells at Sampdoria and Cagliari.

“I want to maintain the mentality and spirit of this team, the courageous approach that makes them face every opponent in the same way,” said Di Francesco in his press conference.

“I came here to give my best. That is the reason I came to Verona. It’s not about individuals, as we must consider this a unit.

“Aside from the tactical principles, we must play with temperament and aggression. I will try to bring some tactical novelties, but don’t want to dismantle the good work that has been done by my predecessor.

“I have my own principles of the game and want to introduce those to the team. I want to maintain the three-man defence, occasionally moving to four, as it’s how we can get the best out of the wide men.”

Among the reasons for Juric’s departure was the lack of ambition, complaining the club sold his best players every summer.

“I spoke to the director of sport and the important thing is to maintain our Serie A status, then the rest will follow,” noted Di Francesco.

Unlike the Sampdoria and Cagliari experiences, the coach will be reunited with his assistant manager Francesco Tomei.

“Tomei is fundamental for me and I’m glad to be working with my staff again after a few years.”
