This is a relegation dogfight and a win would help the Salentini drag themselves out of the bottom three, but so far they haven’t won a single home game.

“In my view it’s time to end the Stadio Via del Mare taboo,” said the Coach ahead of the 17.00 UK time kick-off.

“This has become a heavy weight on our shoulders. We are going into a trio of important games and against Catania it’s a Cup Final.

“We have been too inconsistent and not strong enough in our personality. We’ve got to be more carefree in our attacking approach.”

It is a special game for Di Francesco, who faces his former Roma teammate Vincenzo Montella.

“I have a strong bond with Vincenzo that goes beyond football. It will be a bit strange for both of us to go out there as adversaries.

“Catania’s greatest strength is their character, as they never give in. In some games they went behind and fought their way back up, even winning.”
