The contract on offer is similar to the deal that Di Francesco rejected from Deportivo Alaves, specifically a two-year agreement worth €1.8m per season.

Following his rapid hiring and firing from Sampdoria, the former Roma and Sassuolo coach is eager to choose the right project for his style of football.

Liverani had been the favourite, but it’s claimed he is hesitating to see if Lecce manage to secure their Serie A safety first.

He took the Salentini to promotion last season and can still turn it around on the final day, but only if Lecce beat Parma and Genoa don’t get the victory against Hellas Verona.
