Di Canio blasts Mourinho: ‘He made the same mistake at Tottenham…’

Former Lazio striker Paolo Di Canio criticises José Mourinho saying that Roma players are afraid of him and highlighting how the Portuguese coach made ‘the same mistakes at Tottenham.’

The Giallorossi are out of the top four, which was their primary target at the beginning of the campaign.

They were held to a 2-2 draw against Sassuolo yesterday, wasting an opportunity to move closer to Atalanta and Juventus who also picked up a draw in their meeting at the Gewiss Stadium.

Mourinho has heavily criticised his players both inside the dressing room and in front of cameras. Former Italy striker Paolo Di Canio highlights that this is a mistake that the Portuguese coach already made in the past.

“Mourinho hit the dressing room, like all those fans who criticise players who earn millions,” Di Canio told Sky Sport Italia.

“He has fuelled this aspect. He did the same at Tottenham, he blamed the players, but fans over there didn’t buy it. He was one point off Liverpool, then he lost the game against the Reds and collapsed in the following eight matches. Once again, he started to talk about players and referees. Not with this intensity, but the fans told him goodbye.

“The most ardent part of Roma fans still defend Mourinho, but a player has fear in Rome and has fear to talk about it with the coach.

“Roma and Lazio players feel like Brad Pitt when things to well as the radios in the capital always talk about them. However, they are afraid when they lose and live in fear of doing anything.”
